An initial visit lasts for one-and-a-half hours during which time I take an extensive personal and family medical history, and learn everything I can about your health concerns and diet. I will also review your current medical records and lab work that relate to your state of health. By the end of the first visit, we will have an initial plan to start improving your overall health. When creating such an individualized plan for a woman, I will consider the following:
My intention is to be your partner in your healing process. My hope and my mission is to help you achieve a greater sense of empowerment with respect to your health by utilizing natural and non-invasive therapies that will support your body's natural ability to heal.
Dr Berman may order some laboratory testing to help in her assessment. Most standard laboratory tests will be covered by your insurance. Some of the specialized testing may not be covered. You need to call your insurance company to confirm this before going forward with your testing.
Neurotransmitter Testing to Assess ADD/ADHD, insomnia, depression, anxiety, autism spectrum disorders, OCD, eating disorders. These disorders are often related to an imbalance in neurochemicals in the brain, called neurotransmitters. For patients struggling with mental, emotional or mood issues the Dr Berman offers urinary neurotransmitter testing through Neuroscience, Inc. This testing can be extremely beneficial because it can help identify imbalances in brain biochemistry. Using appropriate natural, amino acid and vitamin/nutrient supplementation, neurotransmitter imbalances can improve dramatically. Amino acid therapy can be used with patients who want to avoid pharmaceutical drugs, or patients who would like to wean off their current medications, with the help of the prescribing physician. This test is non-invasive and is performed through a urine sample.
Anyone experiencing Infertility, Menopausal symptoms, Premenstrual symptoms, Erectile Dysfunction, Fatigue, Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, Breast Cysts or Dense Breasts, Endometriosis, Recurrent Miscarriage, Premature Hair Loss, Skin Disorders, Anxiety, Insomnia or Depression will benefit from a Hormonal Assessment. Hormonal testing is available through blood, urine and salivary testing, depending on the needs of the patient.
A saliva hormone test is an assessment of the bio-available hormones present in your body. Saliva testing shows how much of your hormones area in your tissues and are therefore active in your body causing the symptoms you may be experiencing. Standard blood hormone tests look at the total levels of the hormones, not just the bio-available hormones. Hormones that can be tested include estrogen (estradiol, estrone, estriol), progesterone, testosterone, DHEA, cortisol, melatonin, dihydotesterone, TSH, T4 and T3.
Dr Berman will decide on the best profile for you from the following testing options: Thyroid Panel
Female Hormone Panel
Male Hormone Panel
28 Day Female Hormone Cycle
Adrenal Stress Index
FOOD ALLERGY TESTING
Food allergies are implicated in many health issues. I have testing available through two different laboratories depending on your needs.

As a Certified Midwife in New York State, I am eligible to be a provider for insurance companies. I do not work with any specific insurance plans and the insurance will see me as an out-of-network provider. Insurance companies reimburse at various rates. Our fees must be paid when services are rendered. The Office staff will provide you with a superbill that has all the information your insurance carrier needs to reimburse you. If you are not sure whether a service is covered by your insurance, we encourage you to call your carrier for authorization in advance.
My office is located in Ithaca, New York in a community called Ecovillage. We are right off 79 West. You will drive up 79 West about 2 miles coming out of downtown Ithaca. There will be antique stores on either side of the road and soon after you will see Rachel Carson Way. Make a left on Rachel Carson Way. Come down the road until you see a group of houses on the left. Keep driving straight and there will be a second group of houses (SONG). My house is in the second group of houses.
